I just got a new Toshiba laptop. I opened microsoft office’s word program and it told me to enter the “product key” located on the bottom/back of the laptop. I enter the number…and it says it is wrong. After several trys i know i didnt type it in wrong. What should i do? how should i obtain microsoft word?

Try using openoffice. Its just like msoffice but free. You can get it at http://www.openoffice.org
I suspect you have a trial version of Microsoft Office that will be good for 25 uses or 60 days. You don’t need a product key to use it during that time; just click the Continue button on the registration screen. The product key on your computer is only for the operating system, not Office.
But beware: Word doesn’t seem to give much warning that the period is about to expire, and when it does, you won’t be able to do much more with your Office documents than read them and print them.

You might be entering the Windows key vs the Office key. The office key won’t be on the bottom of the laptop, it’d be on the Office CD itself.
