I didn’t enter the product code right away. I didn’t want to until I had a lot time in case I had trouble finding the product code. I had no problem finding the code but for some reason Micrsoft word wont accept this code. I have tried over 8 times. I’ve checked and double checked the code to make sure I’ve done it right and I have so I don’t know what to do now.

The product key on the computer is only for the Windows operating system. It won’t work for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, …). Unless you paid extra for Microsoft Office, you have a free trial copy that will expire after 25 uses (of all Office programs combined) or 60 days. Until then, you can use the trial copy by just clicking the Continue button in the registration window without entering anything in the product key boxes.
But be warned: When the trial period expires — with little or no warning — you’ll be able to read and print your documents, but not much more.
Here are some of your options for paying less than full price for Microsoft Office 2007:
First, if you’re a student, you may qualify for the Ultimate Steal edition of Office at a pretty good price ($59.95):
http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx
Second, if you’re interested in buying just Word, check out this URL, especially the second group of listings.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101754511033.aspx
Note that the higher of the two prices quoted is for a full version of that program and the lower, for upgrades from existing software. Read the list of upgrade-qualifying software carefully: MS Works is often one, and may have come on your machine.
Finally, if you’re willing to spend a little to save a little, Microsoft Works is available in stores for about $40.00. You could buy a copy, install it, then buy Office at the upgrade level. I think you’d come out ahead. Note that the upgrade copy probably checks your machine for Works’ presence, so don’t get rid of it after you’ve installed Office. You never know when you’re going to have to reinstall Office.
Also, if you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2007 file format (.docx), here’s a possibility for salvaging them. Microsoft offers a free Compatibility pack that allows earlier versions of Word (and Microsoft Works) to read and write Word 2007 files. If you have access to an earlier version, this can at least give you back your documents. Some new features of Word 2007 will be lost or converted to straight text in the conversion to the earlier version.
Good luck.
Where did you get the code from? If it is on the outside of your laptop then it is for your OS and not office.
If you got it from papers or media holders that Office came in then select the telephone activation method to help resolve any issues.
Are you entering the correct code? The code on the bottom of the laptop is for Windows. The code for MS Office will be on the back of the MS Office CD case, usually on a yellow or white sticker. If you purchased it online then the code should have been emailed to you and you can try cutting and pasting it.
Do you mean product “code” or “key”? Office doesn’t ask for the code. It asks for the “key” to prove you have the original disks. The only “key” it will accept is the one on the actual disk used to load the software. A key from a friend usually won’t work since keys are associated with specific product codes and they can vary from disk to disk. And “Retail”, “OEM”, “Corporate”, “Student” versions all have different codes/keys. Part of Microsoft’s effort to prevent piracy of their products.
Make sure you distinguish the letter “O” from the number zero (“0″), and the number one “1″ from the lower-case letter L “(l)” or the upper case i (“I”). These sometimes are hard to distinguish.
Good luck with your laptop.
