The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. It sounds depressing and weird, but I really enjoyed it in high school (and I was neither depressed nor weird, just an avid reader).

Some may have been penned after the era,
Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks (1971) seemed seminal at the time.
