So I would like to hire a travel agent but I also would like to do some medical tourism while I’m out. What would my best option be?

Great question! Unfortunately, you didn’t say where you are planning to travel.
This is an area in which I have a great interest and I just finished an interview for my students with a medical tourism provider in Mexico who wants to reach out to travel agents.
Unfortunately, travel agents are only just now waking up to the possibilities of medical tourism, so you may be out of luck. Usually the way it works now is that the medical “tourist” seeks out a provider, so the medical part comes first, then the tourism. The medical provider will frequently assist with land arrangements at their end (hotels, airport transfers), but it is up to the traveler to arrange air. So the accent is on the medical, not the tourism.
The major destinations for medical tourism (from the US) are Mexico (a wide range of specialties with cosmetic, weight loss, Lasik, and dentistry at the top of the list), Costa Rica (mostly cosmetic surgery), South America (primarily Brazil), India, and Thailand, with some travel to Eastern Europe.
I strongly recommend medical evacuation insurance if you do this. Just in case. It’s not that expensive and if you travel frequently, you should consider year-long or multi-year coverage.
