I recently bought a new Toshiba laptop. I’m trying to use Microsoft Word and its asking for my 25-digit product key, but I can’t seem to locate it anywhere. Whoever can point me in the right direction gets the points. Thanks!

You have a free trial copy of Microsoft Office that’s good for 25 uses (of all Office programs combined) or 60 days. You don’t need a product key during the trial period. Instead, just click the Continue button in the Registration window without entering anything in the product key boxes.
Note: The 25-character product key on the computer case or laptop bottom is NOT the key for MS Office. It’s only for the Windows operating system.
But be warned: When the trial expires — with little or no warning — you’ll be able to read and print your documents, but not much more. When that happens, here are some of your options for paying less than full price for Microsoft Office 2007:
First, if you’re a student, you may qualify for the Ultimate Steal edition of Office at a pretty good price ($59.95):
http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx
Second, if you’re interested in buying just Word, check out this URL, especially the second group of listings.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101754511033.aspx
Note that the higher of the two prices quoted is for a full version of that program and the lower, for upgrades from existing software. Read the list of upgrade-qualifying software carefully: MS Works is often one, and may have come on your machine.
Finally, if you’re willing to spend a little to save a little, Microsoft Works is available in stores for about $40.00. You could buy a copy, install it, then buy Office at the upgrade level. I think you’d come out ahead. Note that the upgrade copy probably checks your machine for Works’ presence, so don’t get rid of it after you’ve installed Office. You never know when you’re going to have to reinstall Office.
Also, if you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2007 file format (.docx), here’s a possibility for salvaging them. Microsoft offers a free Compatibility pack that allows earlier versions of Word (and Microsoft Works) to read and write Word 2007 files. If you have access to an earlier version, this can at least give you back your documents. Some new features of Word 2007 will be lost or converted to straight text in the conversion to the earlier version.
Good luck.
A product key is included if you purchased a full version of the software; it sounds like your laptop only came with a trial version.

If your new laptop came with Microsoft Office, check the case or sleeve that the disc was in. There should be some sort of a sticker saying what the software is, and what the CD key is. If the software came with any sort of booklet/manual, check the covers for that sticker. You may also check the bottom of the laptop for any CD key labels, I know that’s where the Windows Genuine tag is but they may also put one there for Office, it’s worth a look. Otherwise, you may just have a demo/trial version and need to purchase a full version.
Its most likely you have the 60 day trial. On your laptop it should have a office activation wizzard. Try activating office they should resend your key. I recommend you go buy a copy.
The product key will be on the MS Office media or in a digital certificate from when you purchased a license from an online retailer. Not sure why people make the assumption that MS Office is included with the purchase of a new computer by default. If you purchased a license (which can be done as an extra feature by most vendors), contact your vendor for a license key. It won’t be on the laptop certificate sticker or anything like that.
I’m assuming that it’s a trail version, well Uninstall it from your control panel and download it from
http://trial.trymicrosoftoffice.com/trialukireland/default.aspx
it will give you a trail product key where you can use the product for like 60 days, then after 60 days, you can choose to buy it, or uninstall and start the 60 days again
Hi. You have to buy “Office” and they key will be on the box. You might want to check out OpenOffice at http://www.google.com/search?q=openoffice.org+download&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a .
if you don’t have the case for any of the utilities it means that most likely you have the demo version of this utilities.
you are going to have to buy them for the net most likely.
