With the growth of technology in mobile phones, the world witnessed a heavy rise in the number of phone users. During late eighties and early nineties, there had been a wide expansion in the market of mobile phones. The steady hike in the number of mobile users resulted in the entry of more players into the market and the world saw a lot of new phone manufacturers in the markets who made heavy profits. These models introduced latest technology into the handsets. They ensured that the technology was accessible on fingertips. Among the mobile manufacturers in the world, Nokia mobile phones enjoys the largest space with approximately 40% of market share in the last quarter of 2007. Other leading handsets include Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, LG and Panasonic. All these manufacturers account for over 80% of all mobile phones sold and produced around the world.

The world has witnessed a heavy change in customs with the emergence of mobile phones. With in a span of last two decades, they have grown from rare, expensive equipments of the elite class to all pervasive, low cost personal items. The most interesting part is that the mobile handsets have out numbered land line phones in countries like the U.S. There almost 50% of the children have mobile phones while in countries like North Korea, mobile phone is banned.
