Or do I have to get an A.S. degree in electronics from a community college which is like a 25 minute drive? Anybody who knows please help.

Listen to penncomm and nisaiz30. Don’t waste your time with anything less than a BSEE or BS in physics. If you have the drive and math skills, go for an advanced degree in engineering and/or science. Otherwise, you’ll hate your job and your life, for the rest of your life.
I know what I’m talking about!
You need to get a BSEE to do anything really cool. Even people with BSEE have to do a boring job like Test engineering. So having something lower than a BSEE (ie a certificate or AS) will maybe get you a job as an engineering aide, which really isnt anything to brag about.
If you do get a certificate, youll be doing the jobs the EE dosent want to do, or is over qualified for….like sitting there soldering parts for a board an engineer designed.
If you mean a school like ITT tech then it is not much better then a high school diploma.
Most electronics techs do not have anything above a high school education. They test and assemble electronics.
Designing electronics is usually left to engineers.
Your best bet is the A.S. degree. You can get your foot in the door and transfer most of the credit to a university if you want to continue on to an engineering degree. A degree from ITT tech or similar company will not be transferable or help out much with a job search.
