I would like to know:
-Is it safe for an american female to go for a run by herself? (During the day of course)
-What is good food to order?
-What are good drinks to order?
-Will food/beverage be expensive?
-What are some good/safe clubs?
I will be in Managua and visit a few other cities as well.

You got the right idea to go in daytimes only.Stay within sight of police or security personal.
In a city, most food is original and good to eat.Fish/chicken and of course vegetables.Meat as we know it,is not aged and therefore we did not eat much of it.Most veggies are organic.Only imported food is treated. If you like beer,”Tonja” is a good brand.Rum and coke is another?Rum of the best quality is Flor de Cana.Your choice of colour and proof%
Food on the overall is cheap!! If you eat out at a Hilton etc.you pay more..lol
Clubs…I went to several with my wife and had lots of fun.Yes we did hear of clubs that have troubles etc.stayed away!!
Cities we visited..Managua/Granada/Masaya/Bluefields and the Big Corn Island
I agree with the person on top. ^
If you visit Esteli, which is two hours away from Managua, there are many clubs to go to. This is the “richer” part of Nicaragua. I recommend going to Shamy Club/Key West Discotheque because I am closely related to the owner and he speaks english. Lol (: You don’t have to of course.
Also Esteli Mar is a good tourist place to go to.
Nicaragua is interesting. It is geographically very beautiful and economically very poor. The capital, Managua, is disorganized and pretty shabby. If you are traveling alone (especially if you are female) I highly recommend not staying too long in Managua. Make for the beach, which is so much more pleasant and far cleaner. You can get to the Pacific coast in just a few hours by bus. The route passing through the cool spanish colonial town of Granada is pretty neat, and you get to see the big lake.
As far as coastal towns, I have only been to the south to an area called San Juan del Sur, which is pretty relaxed and more fun. Lots of travelers end up here to surf or sun bathe.
Food there is pretty simple. Every meal comes with a protein like meat or chicken, and the famous “gallo pinto” which is a mix of rice and beans. I really enjoy street food, but you must be careful to choose places that have lots of other patrons. If you are the only person at a restaurant, it’s probably not a great place to dine. Everything is ridiculously cheap there, so your money will go far. Be sure to always bargain for the best price with everything except food, lodging and grocery store items. Always offer half of the original price you are quoted and go from there.
As for clubs, I can’t say because I don’t go clubbing, but I’m sure the better bars are at beach town resorts where all the tourists go. You’ll be safer there than in the city anyway, plus you’ll get to meet cool people. If you choose to stay in Managua, the club neighborhood is Carretera Masaya. There are many barrios that you want to stay out of because it will be dangerous, so stick to the barrio Martha Quezada and the tourist neighborhoods. There are lots of shanty towns in the outskirts, and there is no real city center to speak of. It’s sort of a disorganized city. For the most part, streets are not even named!
Go get yourself a Moon Handbook or Lonely Planet guidebook on Nicaragua, and you’ll find plenty of activities to fill your trip with. Buen viaje!
P.s. nobody speaks english there, you had better learn some key phrases like “how much is this?”, “where does this go?”, “where is the___ ?” and “that costs too much”.
