Baby is 6 months old and has been breastfed only and started baby foods at 4 months. I have to return to work and he will not take a bottle of formula. I don’t blame him, the stuff tastes and smells yucky! I think he is still too young for real dairy products but was just curious about when he will be old enough.
Did the breastmilk in the bottle and he drank out of it fine for a few months but now will not drink from the bottle. He chews on it but no sucking.

Most pediatricians don’t recommend milk and other dairy products until the child is a year old.
a year old
Dairy, especially, and eggs are both highly allergenic. You shouldn’t offer either one until baby is a year old, older if there are food allergies in the family.
Eggs are ok to give, but no milk until 1 year old
Cow’s milk should not be given before 1 year of age due to the allergy risk, see http://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.com/introduce-dairy-foods-to-baby.html
Egg yolk is OK from 6 months, but the whites can cause allergic reactions and should be avoided until baby is at least a year old.
to eat eggs your baby should be at least one, i waited a little longer to be sure with my children. I started my kids on milk around 10 months. It just depends what you and your doctor think is best.
i was always told by the doctor that they can start drinking whole milk at 10 month old and he could proubly eat the eggs now if you break them up in small enough pieces
They do tend to say not to give milk until one year old.
Have you tried the ready made in carton form milk for hungrier babies – this is extremely close to regular milk and my daughter went off her normal feeds when she was 7 months and has been on the hungrier ready made milk since. She only tends to have two 7oz bottles/day but it is better than none. Hope it all works out for you.
eggs as soon has baby can fiqure out how to get it in his/her mouth. the milk thing try a breast pump and keep baby on breast milk a little longer.but my daughter when she tried something and it didnt make her system go all wacky it went on the yes list and she is still alive and almost grown.good luck and kiss that baby for me.
Your baby should be a year old before trying whole eggs….just in case he has an allergic reaction. The same goes for whole milk. This is really a non-issue because it is easy to avoid whole eggs. Also, if you are returning to work, you can use a breast pump so your baby can continue to get the benefits of breast milk.
One year of age. Whole milk is given at age one to help the brain develop with the fat in it. Eggs can cause samonilla in infants. You can pump your milk to leave behind in bottles for your son. Find out from your job if they have a room for breast feeding mothers or a quiet area where you can pump. If they don’t have a room with a fridge, you can take an Igloo or other insulated bag to store the expressed milk in. Blue ice or freezer cold packs work great to help it stay cold.
I wouldn’t put him on cow’s milk at all. Try soy milk or rice milk when he is about 12 months old. You should really continue with breast milk until then. There are some great breast pump products on the market that you can use to pump the milk for him, that would be the very BEST thing for him.
that’s something to ask ur pediatrician. when my kids were little my doc said 1 yr. and 2% milk to start with. again, ask dr. and u may have to try a few formulas before u find the one he will like.
take care
Usually around one. Talk to the doc tho I’ve heard of babies drinking cows milk or even goats milk!(my dad). Don’t give them egg whites before a year but they can have cooked yolks
most pediatricians agree with one year old. Call your pediatrician, he/she could give you a month by month list of foods to incorporate into the infant/toddlers diet.
the thing is real milk can cause bowel problems with little ones. sometimes you may have to go to goat milk or soy milk for them. My son couldn’t handle the regular milk at all. My daughter did fine at 6 months.
18 months is when you can give them dairy but have you thought of pumping your breasts. You should give the baby what he likes and what nourishes him the most. You can get a manual one or one of those machines. You can freeze/refridgerate it until he needs it.
Hope this helps
Most doctors will say wait until they are a year old. If babies are fed eggs too soon, they can develop an allergy. As for the milk, I know of mothers giving 2% or skim milk to their 6 month old. I’d talk it over with your child’s pediatrician.
They have to be a year old before they can start on regular milk. He should be able to eggs now though if they are smashed p well enough for him. Have you tried pumping him breastmilk and feeding it to him in a bottle?
one years old
