Depending on where you are going to be travelling to, it could cost a couple of hundred dollars. If you are a confident traveler, you could do it on your own...but it is easier to have someone travelling with you so you don't have to juggle baby and baggage at the same time. Feed him during take off and landing, and as much as it annoys other passengers, let him cry as it will help unblock his ears.
