How long would the product key last for Microsoft Office 2007 Professional (Academic Version)?

My college is offering this software for $15 at the school store, and I realize it is a great deal. I don’t have a laptop yet, but would love to purchase this now, and use it when I DO end up getting my own laptop. My question is, say it takes me a year to get a laptop, would the Office software key codes be expired by then?

Also, does anyone know if there are any differences between regular Professional, and Academic Professional?
