My daughter used her pacifier until she was 3 months old then on day for her nap we didn’t give it to her. She cried for about 5 mins and put herself to sleep. Best thing we ever did because ever since then we put her in her bed awake and she knew how to put herself to sleep.
do it one at a time… and dont cut the baby off cold turkey, slowly get him/her off.
throw them away.. get the sippy cup and start now if your baby can handle the sippy cup in its hands then you are ready.. always keep a back up or several of them. my little ones kept leaving them in some strange places like the toilet..lol
just take it away- wean the baby with a sippy cup or something that will keep its mind busy to forget about it- it will be about a week or so, but you really need to do this – soon- i hate seeing people with 3-4 year old kids with passies in their mouth
At one year old, for both my kids I just stopped the bottle completely & started cups with spouts. It was very easy.
Sorry neither of them used a pacifier so can’t help much. I think it something you have to cut back on gradually; it will depend how often he or she uses it. Try not to go out with it at first, then not for naps and finally not for night. I’ve heard “losing” it works, too.

ps almost forgot, if you cant take away the pacifier, pierce a hole in it and it will lose its sucking appeal!!!
my son was on a pacifier and bottle till two he couldn’t sleep at night or anything without either one then one day when i woke up i just took it and threw it away by two days he had already forgotten
Can’t help you here. Pacifiers are unnatural. In England, they’re called “dummies.” If you want your baby to start using a cup instead of a bottle you can start any time now.
Babies only use these things when they’re offered. Some babies never use bottles or pacifiers.
i took both my babies off the bottle at 13 months.
the best way that i found was to put something in the bottle that they don’t like. like v8 vegitable juice. or some drink that they don’t like.. then offer them a sippy cup with something that they do like in it.
for 3 or 4 days leave the bottle around where they can get it with the drink they don’t like. obviously change it so its no spoiled and won’t make them sick. but leave it out and they won’t want it because they will associate the bottle with nasty and the cup with yummy… but before you do this introduse the cup and make sure that they know how to use it..
if that dosn’t work then you may have to take it slower. like i did with my little boy. i just slowly gave him his bottle less and less. like i would let him have his morning bottle and his bedtime bottle but no others the whole day. then after a few days i only let him have it at bedtime and after about a week i just took it away completly… he cried for about 5 minutes at night but i just let him cry and we went right to sleep…

Mine were both done with pacifiers after 1 1/2 months. I found that if they had pacifiers they wanted to eat less, so I eliminated the pacifiers and fed them when they wanted. It worked out well. I think most parents use pacifiers to keep their kids quiet. I only used them to keep my kids from sucking their thumbs, you can take away a pacifier, you can’t take away a thumb.
I started giving my kids sippy cups at meals when they could hold it themselves and eat finger foods. They still had a bedtime bottle until they were about one. You have to do it gradually, sometimes they get a bottle, sometimes a cup. I think one of the things that helped was when they each reached about 14 months I had friends who were also having babies and I told my kid that we had to give my friend’s baby the bottles so that they could use them and that they didn’t need them anymore because they were a big kid. You would be amazed at how much kids understand at that age.
I took both of my kids off the bottle when they were one year old. I just quit cold turkey with my son and gave him a sippy (he’s very easy going) and with my daughter, I just took away one feeding at a time and gave her a sippy at mealtimes. The bedtime and middle of the night feedings are the hardest. I had to listen to some crying, but the pacifier will help with that too.
Both of my kids had pacifiers, but were only allowed to use them at bedtime and naptime. My son had his til he was 3 (I know, way too old) and my daughter is 2 yrs old and still has hers. I really think they need to be gone by the time they are 3 yrs old, but if a kid needs something to help comfort them at bedtimes, I think that’s ok. The nice thing about the 3 year old mark is that by that time, you can talk to them about it and they are better able to understand what’s going on.
my friend just cut off the pacificer and gave it back to her daughter and told her it was broken.. Sounded cruel lol i kno! but she said her daughter fussed the first couple days and it worked very well for her.
My daughter just turned 8 months and she just started losing interest in her pacifier. We just started giving it to her less and less.
As for the bottle, have you tried a sippy cup?
There are so many now that have silicone tips that are great for switching from bottle to cup.
My son stopped using a pacifier about 3 months old. He just spit it out one day and never wanted it back. Now the bottle, he was probably almost 2. That was my fault though, it was easier for me just to give it to him when he was going to sleep. But finally I put my foot down and just threw it away. The first week will be hard because they will cry but after that it’s pretty easy. So the best thing to do it just toss it and don’t break down and buy more.
just start slowly giving a cup instead. try it at meals at first and then it your baby seems ok with it move on to using it more and more until the bottle is gone. as for the pacifier that one may be tough depending on how much he or she likes it. maybe try to take it away after the baby falls asleep or just don’t give it to the baby and let them fall asleep on their own. it will probably be rough i wouldn’t do both at the same time. do the bottle first.
Well with her pacifire, she had it for about a month and decided she didn’t like it anymore and found her thumb so my daughter pretty much weened herself off that one at around 2 months, she didn’t have one the first two weeks of life anyway which I think might have made a difference.
With the bottle, we introduced sippy cups to her around 4 months. She is 7 months old now and still takes a bottle but perfers drinking formula or water out of a sippy cup opposed to a bottle.
On my twins first birthday, I threw all their bottles and pacifiers in the trash.
The sonner the better not only for his/her teeth but for the easiest time. My son was off the paci at 6m and off the bottle by 10m. As long as he/she is drinking regularly from a sippy cup they can go off the bottle. My son never notices whenthey wee gone. Also if you get rid of them before your baby can talk there will be less of a fight!!!
Both boys had their binky’s thrown away at 3 months. I just threw them in the trash and they did ok after a couple of weeks. They learned to soothe themselves in other ways. The bottles were thrown away at 9 months and they did ok with that too because they prefered the sippy cups anyways.
With my kids I started giving them sippy cups around 10 or 11 months and limited the pacifier to the bed only. I was consistant with this for a few months. Then we planned a little party. I had the kids help make a cake. We got some party hats and things and had a bye bye bottle party. I had them clear out all the “baby things” and put them in a box. We went together to the trash outside and I let them throw them away. Then we went inside and had our party celebrating them being big kids. It was alot of fun and it worked. They were off the bottle and paci for good.
I took my daughter’s bottle on her 1st birthday; my son’s when he was 13 months and I simply took it completely and neither one of the cared. Now, the pacifier was a different story. They were both 2.5 years and I told my daughter that the dog got it and my son I simply took it and he cried for about a week and then got over it.
1st week without the bottle was hard. Lots of crying. never used a binky… Might want to ween of the bottle 1st then go for the binky in another month.
