Acid reflux is a threatening health condition which involves stomach content flowing from the stomach through the esophagus and finally into the throat. A malfunctioning flap that covers the top of the esophagus is usually blamed for the inlet of the content into the throat. The stomach content includes acid (mainly gastric acid) and due to the corrosiveness nature of it,tender tissues along the path which it travels gets damaged.Over the years, causes of this harmful disease have been given and among them is bad eating habits.
With the above cause in mind, it is proper for us to know about food to avoid with acid reflux condition. This can be categorized in different food groups which are fruits, vegetables, dairy products, beverages and many others.
In the fruit category, citrus fruits such as oranges, lemon and so on are supposed to be avoided whenever possible. This should be done because they contain a certain percentage of acid content. When taken, acid in the citrus fruits add to whatever content is in the body which in turn leads to an increase in acid quantity. When this happens, the acid looks for possible outlets from the stomach so as to reduce its high levels. One ready route is the esophagus which leads straight to the throat. As the acid travels along the esophagus it brings about a burning sensation along its path as it burns the esophagus lining.
When we come to carbohydrates, as much as they are liked by many for their good digestion capabilities, research has it that some of them are comprised in the list of food to avoid with acid reflux. These include mashed potatoes, French fries among many others. They are said to contain high content of fat. Excess fat in the body leads to unwanted toxin accumulation and as a result of this, acid builds up and is forced to travel to the esophagus and eventually into the throat.
Just like vegetables, not all dairy products are supposed to be consumed when you have this disease. Products like sour milk, milk shake and ice cream react harshly with the acid in the body and many times you get to feel the burning sensation whenever you take them due to this reaction. So if possible, try to avoid them in order to prevent yourself from succumbing to the harmful outcomes of the condition.
To add on to the list of food to avoid with acid reflux are beverages like coffee, liquor and wine. These liquids contain caffeine which in turn aggravates stomach acid. The person suffering from the disease undergoes severe pain as a result of the reaction which takes place whenever the caffeine meets the body acid as it goes to the esophagus.
No one in their right mind would wish to suffer from this health problem of reflux due to its uncomfortable nature. For that sole reason,i guess you should find it necessary to know about the food to avoid with acid reflux so as to reduce the chances of having to be subjected to its bitter effects.
