I had this discussion with my cousin a while ago. I told here that when it comes to mens fashion there is not much progress or change since the 70′s she agreed with me. But when it comes to women’s fashion there is not only a lot of variety but lots of unique clothing being created for women everyday. Why is this? Are we that afraid to experiment with the man’s body?

I think a lot has changed since the 70′s, and a lot of women’s fashion is recycled but slightly tweaked.
To me, realistically, once JPG did Madonna’s cone bra, everything had already been done with women’s fashion. Nothing is really new, it’s something old, with a little twist.
We get new fabric options, new stitching because of the technology we have available, but even these are still nothing *drastically* different.
For men though, things were stagnant for a while, and then people did start being more creative with men’s fashion, it became more open. I think we’re still seeing this happening. Tailoring alone for men has changed quite a bit in even the past decade. There’s been doses of femininity in there as well, a lot more contours which actually can really flatter men, and it gets away from that standard, boxy shape.
I think there’s still tons going on for men really, it’s more women’s fashion that hit a plateau to me because, really, what *hasn’t* already been done?
We were done with original ideas at the cone bra haha =o)
yes, women spend more so they are biased towards women.
I absolutely agree and have been complaining about this for a while now! Just go to any store. Like in Macy’s for example. Girls have all these awesome clothes, with great variety, and that actually makes them look sexy. Guys on the other hand have all the same basic clothes, no real variety, just grey hoodies and simple dress shirts. And many times the clothes they present on maniquinns look ridiculous instead of attractive.
Oh, and don’t get me started on the fashion worlds idea of male attraction is, you have to look gay or metero. What about tough, confident, and cool? Thats rare to find for guys. And then the clothes are usually way 100′s of dollars overpriced compared to womens 15 dollar awesome skirt on top of that!
EDIT: And also, men DO care about fashion. It’s usually the loud, macho alpha male who cares nothing about fashion. But many guys are complaining about the same thing I’m saying. Only, they don’t speak up about it enough because SOME guys think it’s stupid to like the way you look. So in order to not look uncool to those guys, dudes don’t say anything. So the fashion world doesn’t hear them.
Self-respecting straight men don’t obsess over stupid things like fashion. For that matter, self respecting people in general don’t obsess over stupid things like fashion.
It’s simply a matter of profits. Women LOVE to shop. Men love to look good. If a woman is told that there is something new or that what she has is outdated she will go out and buy the next new thing.
On the other hand, women are only so focused on their looks and style because they want to be noticed by men, and anything threatening that, whether it’s their confidence or their friend having something they perceive as “better” is going to entice a reaction, i.e. more buying. It’s actually quite a primitive thing
I do believe that men’s fashion is going to be coming alone, however. The world is becoming more androgynous, and should lead to more melding of fashions and less focus on one gender.
I think that men just care less about what they wear than women. Also I think society expects women to care more about what they wear and to work harder at making what they wear pleasing to the eye. Also, I think women are little more competitive about how well they’re dressed than men are.
Maybe from the production end of the fashion world. It may or may not be true, but I read an article that said, generally men’s clothing lines were made more durably.
The explanation was that since most men own one or two good suits in their lifetime, and are less likely to update their wardrobes; their clothing is constructed to last longer.
Some women buy some items of men’s clothing in the smaller sizes for this reason. Good quality clothing is an investment.
The fashion world is DEFINATLEY biased 100000000%. You answered it in your question i guess. Well, basically, the fashion world has already experimented, and stats have shown, obviously, that women are the extreme holders of fashion. Men are not as fussy as women, which explains why the fashion world is dominated by women: they are more influenced by fashion, they have self-images to look like someone they arnt, and is why they tend to rely on buying fashion clothing frequently.
Well men arent as picky as women are about clothes..jeans, shorts..were good. We dont need capris, skirts, w/e other type of lower wear amoung numerous types of shirts and such
Men just arent into clothes as women.
The market and demand isnt as big as th womens clothing. Its that simple.
